Archaeology Field School

A joint venture between George Washington's Fredericksburg Foundation, & The University of South Florida

Field school participants2007 was our sixth excavation season studying the remains of the plantation home where George Washington spent his childhood. Last summer, we uncovered more and more clues to the Washington farm and this summer promises to be exciting as well. You may want to consider joining us for the 2008 season. Spaces are still available!

This six-week class is open to all graduate and under-graduate students who are interested in history, archaeology, anthropology, American studies, museum studies, or education. No previous experience is required—just a good pair of boots and a will to learn. Credits vary between 3 and 6 depending on student need and academic program. Stipends are available to cover housing.

The class will cover:

We will also take several field trips to local Civil War and colonial-era sites as well as special “insider” tours of selected historic sites.

For information about the 2008 field school, contact Prof. Philip Levy at (813) 974-7642, email: plevy@cas.usf.edu or visit the USF Field School web site for application forms.
