Archaeology Dig Diary - Monday, May 23

Spring is still with us. The forecast is for cold and rainy for the next several days. Normally summer would be well established by now. Its delay means that nobody is acclimatized yet and that could make for a long summer.

One week until the University of South Florida students arrive. Professor Philip Levy and his field assistant Lanie Swanson will settle in this weekend. This will be Phil's fourth field season at Ferry Farm and Lanie's third. Fourteen graduate and undergraduate students have signed up to spend six weeks of their summer looking for remains of the Washington farm.

The team that arrived in early May is now very familiar with the excavation and recording systems. They have spent the last three weeks expanding the excavation to the north, unearthing several stone arrow heads, a few Civil War items, glass beads, and colonial pottery in the process.
