The Washington House at Ferry Farm

Washington House Ribbon Cutting
This fall, it was a great pleasure to gather with our community for the Ribbon-Cutting Celebration for the Washington house. With the exterior of the dwelling complete, educators are now presenting Ferry Farm visitors with new insights into the Washingtons’ lives. Efforts continue across the historical landscape with the installation of traditional style split-wood fences – such as post and rail, Virginia or worm, and woven wattle – that define outdoor spaces for domestic tasks, gardens, and animals. Using recent Ferry Farm archaeological research and Augustine Washington’s 1743 probate inventory, noted cabinetmakers are currently crafting furniture for each room of the house.
