Betty Lewis' Probate Inventory

Betty Washington LewisThis 1797 inventory lists items belonging to Betty Washington Lewis at the time of her death. Near the end of her life, Betty Lewis moved from the grand Fredericksburg mansion to Mill Brook, a farm in Spotsylvania County along the Po River. It was there that the probate inventory was made and signed by her sons Lawrence and Robert.

Note: Several items in the inventory have been struck through. The strike-throughs appear on the document itself. In these cases, it appears that the items were found in one group but were later struck through and written down in another category that better suited the actual item.

Monetary values are listed as Pounds.Shillings.Pence, so a listing of £1.12.6 equates to 1 Pound, 12 Shillings, and 6 Pence.
