Twelfth Night at Kenmore

January 10, 2021 | 3:30 pm

The above time is when your performance begins. Please arrive at Kenmore about 5 minutes prior to this time to check-in at the Washington Avenue gate.

In the 18th century, December 25 was but the start of Christmas, a twelve-day celebration that ended on Twelfth Night. This final night was the most festive of the holiday season, if not of the entire year.

In Twelfth Night at Kenmore, the year is 1776. This is the first Christmas that Fielding and Betty Washington Lewis celebrate in their newly built home. It is not the usual joyous atmosphere, however. The Revolutionary War brings fear, doubt, and frustration to the Lewis family, their friends, and Kenmore’s enslaved community.

Historic Kenmore serves as the backdrop as we meet revelers to hear their hopes and fears before they go inside for the Twelfth Night ball.  This year, three dramatic scenes will be performed outdoors only. The audience will move to three different locations near the house to watch each scene so bringing chairs is not necessary. The house will be closed on these evenings.

Masks are required and social distancing will be maintained.

Purchasing tickets in advance is required.

In the event of inclement weather, performances will be canceled and refunds issued. Any cancellation will be announced on kenmore.org and Facebook.
